The definition of gender given by the Holy Bible and Catholic Doctrine has been repeatedly put into challenge in recent decades or so. From International Women’s Day (March 8) to the Pride Month (month of June) and the LGBTQ History Month (month of October), there are nearly 150 days per year now dedicated to the celebration of some types of gender perversion, by which I mean any opinion or understanding of gender that are not in line with Catholicism. Little do the blind followers and advocates of such gender perversion and the so-called “gender ideology” know, it was a certain variety of such perversion that has caused the first man and woman—our first father and mother—to commit the original sin and thus the fall of all mankind.
Types of Gender Perversion
There can be two types of gender perversion. The first perverts the role of each gender, which encompasses feminism (mostly disputing the roles of male and female genders in a given society) and homosexuality (mostly disputing the role of each gender in marriage, family and sexual activity). The second type perverts the nature of gender itself, disputing the fact that there are only two genders—male and female—as Genesis 1:27 clearly testifies, as well as the fact that gender, once “assigned”, cannot be altered, and that God makes no mistake in the assignment of gender. Transgenderism and gender fluidity are the chief representatives of this type of gender perversion.
The reason why gender perversion has to be categorised is that some people tend to possess some varieties but not others. For example a feminist may totally disagree with the position of a gender fluidity advocate, but they both hold views on gender that are at odds with Catholicism. Again, a homosexual may not simultaneously be a feminist, but like a feminist, such person also disapproves of the role of each gender as defined by Catholic Teachings.

Gender Perversion and Original Sin
To most audience in this century, the Biblical account of the creation and fall of man (Gen. 1-3) might resemble too much a fairy tale or a “little story”, that people even those without malice tend to neglect the important message carried in these verses. The account of creation (Gen. 1-2) teaches that (1) God created everything in a particular order and placed every creature into its own place in a hierarchy, known as the great chain of being; that (2) the creation was perfect, because it was done and considered to be “good” by the all-perfect God, and it would continue to be perfect insofar as every being stays in place and fulfils its purpose as assigned by God, and that (3) woman was created separately from man to be “a help (adjutorium) like unto” man (Gen. 2:18). Therefore there is an impassable barrier between the two human genders, and it is noteworthy here that being man’s adjutorium does not necessarily render woman inferior to man. We also pray that God would come to be our adjutorium in prayers like “Deus, in adjutórium meum inténde. Dómine, ad adjuvándum me festína. (O God, come to my assistance. O Lord, make haste to help me.)” and “Adjutórium nostrum in nómine Dómini. Qui fecit cælum et terram. (Our help is in the name of the Lord. Who made heaven and earth.)” To say the least, the two genders are not supposed to be, as some feminists might suggest, at enmity towards each other. Rather, the office of woman is to assist man in fulfilling his purpose which is to love God. Man, being put in charge of God’s creation (Gen. 2:19), must lead all creatures in his charge (including woman) unto God.
Knowing the respective offices of man and woman, it becomes understandable that the cause of original sin, in the part of us mankind, is more than the weakness of woman which submitted her to the temptation of the serpent who we now know to be Satan (Apoc. 20:2). In fact, God did not blame woman for her weakness. How could He? God Himself had just put woman into the custody and leadership of man, who through the neglect of his own office, led the entire creation into anathema. When God returned His verdict, He highlighted the neglect of man as a fundamental cause of original sin: “Because thou hast hearkened to the voice of thy wife…” (Gen. 3:17). Alas, it is to the Voice of God, that a man shall hearken, thus to shepherd the creation unto God. It is never the voice of a woman, that shall lead. Because our first parents perverted the roles of their respective genders, the entire creation has thus been cursed with sins.
Shortly after the commission of original sin, we saw a further perversion of man’s office, the role of male gender, as man led his wife not towards God but to hide “from the face of the Lord God” (Gen. 3:8). As original sin brewing in our souls, we saw the beginning of intergender hostility (Gen. 3:16), the birth of polygamy (Gen. 4:19) and the sin of Sodom (Gen. 19:5) which is so celebrated today. Eventually, the Incarnation of the Word challenges us to what we now call a “dirty mind test”. To those with “dirty minds”, our beloved Lord may seem to be an illegitimate son, born of adultery, of perversion. Our immaculate Lady may resemble an unclean and sinful woman. However, to the souls that crave holiness and truthfulness, the Word Incarnate is a beam of saving light in this world darkened and perverted by sins. Sin, started with gender perversion, ended with a seemingly perverted but, in truth, a Holy Family where Men being Men, Woman being Woman.
At the end, may the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus have mercy on us!
Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us!
Saint Joseph, pray for us!
