The day started like any other, with a glass of milk at breakfast and a quick dash to catch the bus for school. Little did Mia know, what was brewing in her stomach would change everything…

Chapter One: The Morning Grumble

I can’t remember a time when my stomach didn’t feel weird after I ate dairy. Whether it was a cup of milk with breakfast or a slice of cheesy pizza at dinner, there was always a price to pay. Sometimes, I’d just get a little gassy and could get away with silently suffering. Other times, I’d feel nauseous or, even worse, run to the bathroom with cramps and diarrhea. But none of it really made sense to me back then, so I never spoke up. I thought maybe everyone’s stomach felt this way after eating ice cream or drinking milkshakes.

But things really started to add up when I was ten, in the fourth grade. That day was… unforgettable, to say the least.

It was a typical school morning. I woke up a little later than usual, so my mom quickly poured me a glass of milk to have with my cereal for breakfast, like she always did, and I didn’t even think twice about it. I remember feeling my stomach grumble a little after finishing it, but I brushed it off. “It’s fine,” I told myself.
