Chinese Zodiac

The celebration of Lunar New Year, otherwise known as Chinese New Year or Spring Festival, is increasingly popular worldwide, even among Catholics without Oriental heritage. Some may argue that Lunar New Year celebration is merely a secular celebration of the beginning of a year according to moon phase rather than the position of the sun, and that the celebration itself can be Christianised and celebrated as a Christian Feast Day. As a Catholic missionary to China and applied anthropologist by training, with another Lunar New Year around the corner, I would like to discuss why Baptised Catholics should not celebrate Lunar New Year.
